Obituary of Martha L. Axsom
Martha Louise (Cazee) Axsom, age 87, passed peacefully on Tuesday November 27, 2018 at 02:50 p.m. while surrounded by her children. Martha was born February 26, 1931 in Monroe County and was a daughter of the late Archie Delbert and Gerty (Baxter) Cazee. Martha attended Smithville High School and was a member of the Smithville Christian Church. Martha was raised on a farm in Fairfax Indiana and forever had a special place in her heart for God’s creatures. Feeding birds and planting flowers, that offered beauty plus food and shelter to little animals, was a joyful part of her life. Martha instilled that love by example to her children and grandchildren who still find much joy in nature, flowers, plants, and the animals that share our world. Martha was proud of her American Indian heritage and loved visiting the Cherokee North Carolina Indian Reservation. Martha was a loving daughter, sister, wife, Homemaker, Mother, Grandmother, teacher, encourager and friend. Home and family was most important to almost everything else in her life. The kids and Grandkids confided their secrets, hopes, dreams, failures and success to her always available ear. Martha had a peaceful, happy, hopeful and loving nature that always chose to seek the good in most everyone. Many are called to fulfill a special purpose in life. Martha undoubtedly fulfilled God’s purpose for her life with the love she shared with family, neighbors and friends. One of the most important gifts to our family was her strength, faith to believe in the hope that tomorrow carried with it the joy of living one more glorious day. Martha seemed to always carry with her a peace and believed that no matter what happens today God is in control. Martha was married (65 happy years) to Perry Lee Axsom who preceded her in death. Martha was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; Mary Etta (John) Deckard, Margaret Kathryn Southern and one in infancy; four brothers, Delbert Leon (Bernice) Cazee; Roy Thomas (Jackie) Cazee, Dewey (Geneva) Cazee and Donald Cazee; Brother-in-Law Melvin Matlock; Son-in-Law Larry Carter; Grandson Ryan Carter. Martha is survived by her beautiful sweet Sister Cleo Marie Matlock; Son William Lee(Kathleen) Axsom; Daughters Sarah Margaret (Dennis)Siscoe; Carmon Ann (Danny)Butcher; Beth Ellen Ingram; Donna Louise (Bill) Smith; Grandchildren Robert (Miranda)Axsom; Lisa (Brian) Fritz; Greg Carter; Danny Lee (Amanda) Butcher; Jennifer(Jason) Hawkins; Ethan Smith. G-Grandchildren: Jacob; Kayla; Zachery; Lincoln Axsom; Waylon; Alice; Etta Fritz; Cody; Colton Butcher and Will Hawkins. I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital, Fourth Floor South Ortho/Neuro Nursing Staff, tenderly cared for Martha during her transition from this life to Heaven. We cannot effectively express our gratitude to each member of this special group for their personal care. Nurse Erica described it best when she said, “We will do our best to treat Martha as one of our own family”. That is exactly what they did. Our families ask God to bless this special group of Nurses and Care Giving Staff for their skilled and professional care of our mother during this stressful time. Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday 11/30/2018 at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary; 700 W. Gourley Pike with Pastor Stephen Johnson officiating. Visitation is at 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
