Obituary of Norine Brophy
Norine G. Brophy, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 4, 2018 in West Lafayette, Indiana. She was born on October 24, 1928 to Roger and Norine (Kelly) Guillet in Norwich, Connecticut. Norine earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts, and worked for many years as a teacher. On June 24, 1950, Norine was married to Patrick Joseph Brophy. Due to Patrick’s career path, Norine supported her husband by creating family homes in Lansing, Michigan, Canton, Ohio, Orange, Connecticut, Silver Springs, Maryland, Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and Clearwater, Florida. Patrick preceded Norine in passing on December 10, 2007. Norine was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church when she lived in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She taught for eight years at St. Paul's and served as their Altar Society President. As a member of the Grosse Pointe Junior League she enjoyed giving back to her community. This commitment to service continued in Florida where she and Patrick were involved in support of community theatre, local parks and many other worthy causes. She loved travel, particularly to Europe. She was fascinated with art and archeology and cherished her trips to Greece. She had many hobbies; attending plays and symphonies, sewing, reading, remodeling homes, painting landscape scenes, needlepointing and gardening. Above all, Norine loved her family and devoted her life to caring for them. Norine is survived by her children, Julaine (Peter) Brent, Moira (Clay) Woods, and Sean (Carol) Brophy; sister-in-law, Julaine Tillmann; grandchildren, John (Robin), Jennifer and Paula Brent, Kelly (Andrew) Potter, Colin Bakewell, Christopher Woods, Amanda Woods, Ryan and Erin Brophy; and great grandchildren, Liam and Owen Brent. Interment will take place in Clearwater, Florida in the new year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Indiana Veterans Home, 3851 N River Rd, West Lafayette, IN 47906, for the residents of Pyle 2, in honor of the care and kindness Norine received during her time in residence.
