Obituary of William "Bill" Joe Baxter
William J. “Bill” Baxter, 64, of Bloomington died Wednesday, December 05, 2018 in I.U. Health Hospice House. He was born November 4, 1954 in Bloomington to William Baxter and Leoda K. Souders Baxter. He was retired from the Ellettsville Fire Department and Bloomington Hospital EMS. Survivors include his wife Theresa King Baxter of Bloomington; four children, Renee (husband Bryan) Hixson of Ellettsville, Bill (wife Stephanie) K. Baxter of Bloomington, Joshua (wife Kimberly) Baxter of Goshen and Ruth (husband Jon) Barnes of Ft. Wayne; 18 grandchildren; two sisters, Sandra Barkes of Columbus and Jane (husband Kevin) Parsley of Springville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carol Terpenning Baxter; a brother and sister in law, Jack and Sue Baxter; and a brother in law, Fred Barkes . Bill or Big Dog as he was known around the fire house worked with the Ellettsville Fire Department for 38 years, he also worked as a transport driver at Bloomington Hospital. He was a member of the Ellettsville Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, December 10, 2018 at 1:00 PM in Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, 700 W Gourley Pike with Pastor Larry Mitchell officiating, burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM and 1 hour prior to services in the funeral home. Eastern Star and Masonic Services will be held starting at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday during visitation.
