Obituary of Thomas Weedon Armstrong Jr.
Dr. Thomas Weedon Armstrong, Jr., 95, of Culpeper, VA, passed away January 29, 2019 at Culpeper Health Care Center. He was born June 10, 1923 to the late Thomas Weedon and Cora Virginia Doyle Armstrong and was married to the late Lucille Lewis Armstrong. Dr. Armstrong was a graduate of the Class of 1944 of the University of Richmond and the Medical School of Virginia. He was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served his country during WW II in the Pacific Theatre. During his lengthy career as a dentist, he was a member of various National, State and Local dental associations, serving on numerous committees and was a Fellow of the Virginia Dental Association. He also served as a member of the BlueCross/Blue Shield Commission. He was a member of the Culpeper Baptist Church, served on the Board of Trustees, was past chairman of the Board of Deacons, a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a past member and past president of the Jefferson Ruritan Club; was a Paul Harris Fellow, member and past president of the Culpeper Rotary; served as past vice-president of the Culpeper Chamber of Commerce; was a member of the Cancer Society; was a board member of the Virginia Baptist Home; was a founding member of County Farm Service of Culpeper; and was a charter member of the Culpeper Country Club. Dr. Armstrong is survived by his children, Thomas Weedon Armstrong, III (Marie); Maryan Kearney (Tim); Betsy Spencer (Dave); grandchildren, Kenneth Armstrong (Ashley), Brad Armstrong (Megan), Robbie Kearney (Kristina), Andrew Kearney (Christina), Will Kearney, John Kearney (Hannah), Ben Spencer, Jack Spencer and six great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Kyle, Owen, Adam, Caleb and Matthew. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a son, Lewis Armstrong and his wife, Kyle, and a sister, Sally McNemar. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 South West Street, Culpeper, VA, with Rev. Dan Carlton officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery will immediately follow the service. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 1, 2019, at Clore-English Funeral Home, 11190 James Monroe Highway, Culpeper, VA. Dr. Armstrong's grandsons will serve as pall bearers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Dr. Armstrong’s name to the Building Fund of Culpeper Baptist Church, 318 South West Street, Culpeper, Virginia 22701; or to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
