IN THE CARE OF
Demaine Funeral Home
Sheila Carmen (Hill) Veney, age 68, passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2019 surrounded by family. A longtime resident of Alexandria, she was born in Fairfax, VA on July 17, 1950 to the late Estelle S. Hill and Hardie Younger. After graduating from George Washington High School, Sheila married Lawrence Veney in 1976. Together they had two children; Sean (Stow, OH) and Keya (Little Rock, AR). While raising her family, she worked as a paralegal specialist at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for over thirty years until her retirement in 2005. Over the years since she has enjoyed spending time watching TV, especially classic western movies, reading, and solving Sudoku puzzles.
Sheila was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, niece, and friend who will be remembered for her no nonsense attitude and sense of humor. She was very proud of her children and three grandchildren; Gabriela, Phillip, Jr., and Elijah, who were her greatest joy in life. She especially looked forward to spending time with them at Thanksgiving and Christmas. But nothing compared to the joy she found in having PJ and Elijah spend their summer break with her in Alexandria each year. She loved indulging their every request (no matter how unreasonable) and made it her mission to spoil them rotten.
Sheila will be greatly missed but leaves to cherish her memory a husband, son, daughter, grandchildren, son-in-law (Phillip), aunts (Catherine Hill and Lorraine Hill), and a host of cousins, friends, and other relatives.
