Susan J. (Schaad) Umbach

Susan Jane (Schaad) Umbach, 79, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Saturday, March 9, 2019. She was born January 24, 1940 in Evansville to the late Robert “Bob” and Lucile (Henn) Schaad. She was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. Susan graduated from Evansville College where she was a member of Chi Omega and enjoyed their monthly bridge club gatherings for the past 58 years. She was active in the Junior League and worked with Evansville Christian Home. Susan also did interior design work. She had a true appreciation for the outdoors, loved birds and bird watching and enjoyed her flowers. She liked a good crossword puzzle. Her passion was her grandchildren and watching them perform in their various activities. Susan is survived by her husband of 56 years, Albert J. Umbach, Jr.; daughter, Anna M. Courter (Erick); son, John Umbach (Sara); grandchildren, Emerson and Elias Courter and Emily and Elise Umbach; sister, Sarah “Sally” Theuerkauf (Jack), and nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2019 at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, officiated by Rev. Tom Wenig, with private burial in Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 10:30 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.
