George Coleman Cox

George Coleman Cox 90, of Mineral, Va. passed peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 13th, 2019. Coleman was born May 1, 1928 in Richmond, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Bernard Cox, Sr and Gladys Ganzert Cox. Coleman was retired from Franklin Federal Savings and Loan where he served as a Vice President and branch manager. He was a founding member of Mechanicsville Christian Center and current loyal member of Central Va Assembly of God. He served as a cook in the U. S. Army in the Korean War. Coleman attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute where he studied architecture. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Hazel O'Brien Cox and three sons, David W Cox (Karen), Paul G Cox and Thomas S Cox (Elizabeth), six grandchildren, Sara, Kaitlin, Peter, Jessica, Hannah and Matthew and nine great grandchildren. Coleman was a generous, quiet, hard-working man who loved his God, his family and model trains, and will be missed by all who were honored to know and love him. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 18th from 5 to 8pm at Woody Funeral Home, Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville where services will be conducted on Friday, April 19th at 10am. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
