Obituary of Herman Lynn Boyles
"Any man can be a Father, but it takes someone special to be a DAD" Herman Lynn Boyles, born September 19, 1925 - passed on April 23, 2019. Preceding him in passing were his parents, Samuel L. and A. Love Boyles, son Lloyd C. Taylor Jr. and most recently his beloved wife of 59 years, Lena Mae. Herman worked as a printer for the Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C., for 29 years. He founded Boyles Motor Sales in his late 20’s, and it is still up and running in Alexandria today. His motto: Home of dependable used cars. Herman enjoyed talking cars, drives to Winchester, old cowboy movies and singers such as Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and all of the old country classics; Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Hank Williams Sr., to name a few. He loved animals! He always had a dog or cat, or both. In his more relaxed years, he truly enjoyed sitting on his back patio feeding the birds and chipmunks. The chipmunks would climb on his leg and take peanuts from his hand. Herman was a body builder in his early years and he earned a certificate from Charles Atlas. He never gave up on his exercises, he just slowed down. He had a head for business, a great memory, and a very good sense of humor. He loved few things better than a healthy meal or someone doing something for him. Herman is survived by his brother Robert L. Boyles; wife Veronica, sons Charles “Chip” Taylor and Charles Willis; wife Susie, daughters Mary Ann Mitchell; husband Gene, Betty A. Lamb; husband Wilson Jr., Denise P. Short; husband Robert and daughter Deborah Lynn Boyles. He has 46 grandchildren spanning four generations. He had a most amazing relationship with his grandson John C. Lester, who was his buddy and right hand man. ALWAYS there for him…right to the end, along with his nephew Michael D. Breeden. He had a host of nieces and nephews, a few cousins, and many friends he made wherever he went, and he had good neighbors too. He was a blessed man, who took life as it came and rarely worried. He was a great provider and almost too blessed to have found his Lena, who truly spoiled him. Services will be held Apple Blossom weekend, his favorite time of the year. Herman was from Winchester and was in the Apple Blossom parade as a young boy. He continued the tradition by taking family and friends to the parade each year until his Lena could no longer make the trip. Services will be held at National Funeral Home on Lee Highway in Falls Church, Virginia. A visitation on Saturday, May 4th, from 7 – 9 pm, a Funeral Service on May 5th, at 2 pm, with internment to follow. In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial contribution to the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 5901 Wilton Rd., Alexandria, VA 22310 or the Bailey Crossroads Fire Department, 3601 Firehouse Ln, Bailey's Crossroads, VA 22041. The family of Herman Boyles extends deep gratitude for the outpouring of prayers, sympathy and support. Your kindness is greatly appreciated. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HIS JOURNEY'S JUST BEGUN Don’t think of him as gone away- His journey’s just begun Life hold so many facets This earth is only one. Just think of him as resting From the sorrows and the tears In a place of warmth and comfort Where there are no days and years. Think how he must be wishing That we could know today How nothing but our sadness Can really pass away. And think of him as living In the hearts of those he touched… For nothing loved is ever lost- And he was loved so much. - Ellen Brenneman ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oh my FATHER, I ask of thee, for my daddy’s own – a cherry tree. Please let him know tho he is away, in my heart he will always stay. Oh FATHER, I humbly ask of you: please give my daddy a mountain view. Let him know his lessons taught, with the finest gold, could not be bought. Oh my FATHER, I ask in prayer, please give my daddy a rocking chair. Up in Heaven, I am sure they’re gold, just like the stories, daddy told. Oh my FATHER, just one more thing, please give my daddy birds that sing. Maybe they could sing so loud, their songs would echo from the clouds. A little reminder from YOU to me, that daddy is resting there with thee. - DB
