Obituary of Ronald William Battreall
Ronald W. Battreall, 83, of Fishers passed away at home on May 24, 2019 holding the hand of “his bride” of 60 years, Mary Jo, and surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong Indiana resident, he attended Holy Angels Catholic school and was a 1953 graduate of Cathedral High School. Ron was a four-year starter for the Irish football team. During those four years, he helped the Irish win the 1953 All State Championship, served as co-captain, was elected to the all-city team and was the first Indiana player to be selected to the U.S. All-Catholic All-America preparatory team as a 16 year old senior. He also had the honor of playing for the South team in the inaugural state of Indiana’s North/South football game. Ron continued his football career at Indiana University while pursuing a degree in Physical Education where he was also a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and later a member of the I Men’s Association. His love of sports led him to officiate CYO, high school and college football and basketball for 20+ years with the Indiana Officials Association. Ron’s sales career in the Electric Industry spanned over 42 years, beginning with Chevrolet and ending at Brehob Electric in 2001. In 1996 he served as president of The Electric League of Indiana. Often seen on the golf course, Ron and Mary Jo enjoyed several years of their retirement as members of the Kelly Green Golf Club in Ft. Myers, Florida. The garden and lawn of the Battreall home in Fishers was the envy of the neighborhood. Ron spent countless hours outdoors either gardening or riding his prized mower, many times with a grandchild riding along. To Ron, his most treasured and proudest accomplishment was his family. He is survived by “his bride”, Mary Jo (Treacy); his children, Michael, Dianne (Alan) Colquitt, Suzanne (Paul) Schoettelkotte, Lisa (Tom) Williams, Amy Burns and Michelle (John) Bunch; son-in-law, Duke Burns; sister-in-law, Nancy Treacy; his “buddies”, grandsons, Jack and Corey Colquitt and Henry Schoettelkotte; his “dolly’s” or “sugie’s”, granddaughters, Kylie Colquitt, Samantha Burns, Sophia, Liliane and Winifred Bunch. He was also blessed with bonus grandchildren, Brian Burns, Elizabeth (Ryan) Sheppard and Lauren Bunch; brothers, Robert (Ruth) and Edward (Elizabeth); and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, Russell and Anne (Strong); his brother, Jean; sister, Janice Penoff; and bonus grandson, Brent Burns. Memorial contributions may be made to: Gennesaret Free Clinics, 615 North Alabama St., Suite 136, Indianapolis, IN 46204 or Overdose Lifeline, Inc., 1100 W. 42nd St., Suite 345, Indianapolis, IN 46208. The family would like to thank Premier Hospice and Home Instead Senior Care for the excellent care and thoughtfulness they extended to both Ron and the entire Battreall family.
