Susan "Janie" Hood

Susan "Janie" Hood, 69, passed away Friday, June 28, 2019 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Janie was born on March 26, 1950 in Columbus, Indiana, the daughter of Richard and Wilma Gottschalk. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1968. On February 15, 1969, she married Steve Hood and together they had two children. Janie was employed as a teachers' assistant at Schmitt Elementary for 33 years where she touched many lives. She was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1973. Janie loved to read, collect seashells at the beach, and collect coins. She loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren were the light of her life. Janie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Steve, her two children, Michelle (John) Klein and Ryan (Maritza) Hood. Her grandchildren, Hunter, Hayden, Hannalee, Trenton, Dawson, Sydney, and Jonathan. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Storm. A funeral service for Janie will be held Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Hathaway-Myers Chapel with Rev. Howard Boles officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday, July 5, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. An additional visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Saturday. Memorials in Janie's name may be made to The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Hathaway-Myers is serving the Hood family.
