Clayborn Eugene Campbell

Clayborn Eugene “Gene” Campbell was born March 25, 1949, in Lyon, Mississippi, to parents Sally Lurlene (McCraney) Campbell and Claybourn Frank Campbell. During his childhood the family resided in three states: Alexandria, Louisiana; Tucson, Arizona; and Stockton,California. In 1968 Gene was drafted into the United States Army. He completed his basic training at Ft Lewis, WA and shipped out to Viet Nam as a combat motion picture photographer with the 221st Signal Company.After his deployment Gene returned to Ft Lewis, WA. Upon leaving the military he held various civil service jobs within the Department of Defense. While employed at Madigan Army Medical Center in 1978, he met Carol Anne White, the woman who would become his wife. After a brief courtship, they married on October 11, 1980 in Tacoma, Washington. Gene and Carol shared a mutual interest in travel and photography. Together they traveled throughout the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean and Cuba. In 2014 after a 40-year distinguished career, Gene retired from civil service as a Management Analyst with the Defense Contract Management Agency at Fort Lee (Chester, VA). During his retirement Gene volunteered with the Fairfax County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), the Julius Rosenwald School Foundation of Northumberland County, Virginia (JRSFNC), Montebello Condominium Finance and Budget Committee, Fairfax County, Virginia election officer for the 2016 presidential election and co-founded, with his wife, the Summit Preservation and Research Institute. Gene was preceded in death by his Mother, Sally Lurlene (McCraney)Campbell and Father, Claybourn Frank Campbell. He is survived by: his devoted and loving wife, Carol; sisters-in-law Jacqueline Owens (Aundrá); Leslie White (Tom Schumacher); Mary Vazquez (Gregorio); brothers-in-law Robert White (Laura); Richard White (Melissa); and Ronald White; nephews Terrance Jones; Captain Clarence Abercrombie(Niki); and Nelson White; nieces Sydney Piccard (Rudolph); Courtnee Owens; Natalie White and Nicole White; great nephew Kai Abercrombie; close relatives Emory and Gladys Sargent, George White, Muriel McCarthy and a host of friends and relatives.
