Michael Egan, 51, of Falls Church, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2019, surrounded by close family and friends.
Mike was born in New York City on August 11, 1967, the son of the late Cyril Egan of Charlestown, Co. Mayo, Ireland and Eileen Geary of Ballyporeen, Co. Tipperary, Ireland. Mike was a graduate of Saint Ignatius Loyola School and Xavier High School in Manhattan and Xavier University in Cincinnati. After 29 years of service, he recently retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the U.S. Marshals Service. Mike loved spending time with his family and friends, celebrating his Irish heritage, and practicing his faith at Saint James Catholic Church in Falls Church.
Mike’s loving family includes his wife, Betsy Coffey Egan, and their three children, Brigid, Jimmy and Clare. He is also survived by his caring mother-in-law Gene Coffey of New Rochelle, New York; his brother-in-law James (Terri) Coffey of Old Greenwich, Connecticut, and sister-in-law Chrissy Coffey (Mark Fitzgerald) of Rye, New York; and his cherished niece and nephews, Brenna, Danny and Dylan; and his beloved extended Egan family in the U.S. and Geary family in Ireland.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad Street in Falls Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 11, at 10 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church, 103 North Spring Street in Falls Church. The burial will be held in Fairfax Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mike’s memory to the Guardian Angel Fund at Saint James Catholic School, 830 West Broad Street, Falls Church, VA 22046.
