Obituary of Harold Scott Rutherford
Harold Scott Rutherford, 88, of Kokomo passed away in his home Sunday, August 11, 2019. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana April 15, 1931 to Alonzo and Margaret (Graves) Rutherford. Harold was the very first Class President and part of the first graduating class of Western High School in 1949. November 25, 1953, Harold married the love of his life, Phillis Wellinger in Nogales, Mexico. Together they raised four children. Harold was a proud Navy veteran, having served in the early 1950’s at the end of the Korean War. Once he returned to Kokomo, Harold went to work for Delco and spent the next 37 years with them, retiring in the early 1980’s. He was an avid ball player and coached little league and women’s softball. Harold was a founding member of We Care and sold many ears of corn at Haynes-Apperson festival to benefit We Care. In his spare time, Harold enjoyed fishing, especially at the cabin on Lake Shafer. Most of all, he loved his family, spending as much time as he could with his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Harold is survived by his wife, Phillis; children, Pam Hobbs, Cheryl (Mike) Pearce, Vicki Rutherford and Kevin Rutherford; siblings, Robert (Anna Mae), Fred (Clara), Wayne (Connie) and Carolyn (Rick) Shilling; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his siblings, Jim, Kenneth and Loretta; and his son-in-law, Roger Hobbs. Family will receive friends Saturday, August 17 from noon-4pm at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, IN 46902, with service to follow at 4pm.
