Vivian L. Payne

Vivian L. Payne, 82 of South Whitley passed away at 11:40 pm on Friday, September 13, 2019 at her residence. Vivian worked as a CNA for almost 30 years. She was a member of Washington Center United Methodist Church and loved her church family. Vivian enjoyed baking and cooking and spending time with her family, especially sitting on the porch with her husband. Vivian was born on April 14, 1937 in Blossburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Harry and Nettie (Rhoades) Tanner. She was united in marriage to Robert Payne on November 13, 1954. Her husband preceded her in death on May 28, 2013. Survivors include five sons: Tim Payne of Fort Wayne; Bob (Vicki) Payne of Columbia City; Chris (Amy) Payne of Columbia City; David (Liz) Payne of South Whitley; Jeff Payne of South Whitley; a daughter: Bridgete (Terry) Smith of Huntington; two brothers: Cliff (Betty) Tanner, Larry (Charlotte) Tanner; a son-in-law: Sam Crossgrove of White Pigeon, MI; 23 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Yovanda Crossgrove, Vickie Creech; two sisters: Betty Sterling, Opal Snyder and a brother: Gerald Tanner. Memorial service will be incorporated into the church service on Sunday September 22, 2019 at the Washington Center United Methodist Church, 8010 S Washington Road, Columbia City with Pastor Bill Rapp officiating.
