Cecil Ray Gurganus

Cecil Ray Gurganus, 84, of Evansville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Deaconess Midtown. He was born October 22, 1934 in Greenville, NC to the late Joe Mitchell Gurganus and Nellie (Teel Gurganus) Boyce.
He was a chemist graduate from East Carolina University. He worked in the plastics industry until his retirement from GenCorp, where he was the Divisional Technical Director. Cecil was very knowledgeable in plastics and had six patents. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Community Central Church and Deacon Emeritus at North Park Baptist Church.
Cecil was preceded in death by son, James David; sister, Marie Rouse, and brother, Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Gurganus; children, James Gurganus of Lake Oswego, OR and Betsy King and her husband Will of Highland, IL; grandchildren, Joshua, Ben, Renae and Sara and his beloved American Bobtail cats, Cleo and Coco.
A Memorial Service will be 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtown Road, officiated by Pastors Dan Sigler and Bobby Cox. Friends may visit Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until service time.
