Obituary of John Lewis Crew Sr.
John Lewis Crew Sr., 84, went to heaven to join his wife Betty on October 7, 2019. John was born in Maryland to the late Thomas and Elizabeth Crew on July 12, 1935. He is predeceased by his sister Helen Miller and brother Howard Crew. John graduated from Sudlersville School House in Maryland, then joined the Navy in 1956. After marrying the love of his life in 1958 they were stationed in San Diego, California then Norfolk, Virginia where they planted their roots and lived in the same house for 53 years. John was very proud of the work he did and the countries he visited. Traveling on the ships USS Vogelgesang, USS Estes, USS Tennessee, USS South Carolina, USS L. Y. Spear, and USS Pandemus, John got to see many beautiful places including Spain, Japan, Hong Kong, Tai Wan, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Isle of Capri, South Korea, Okinawa, Mexico, China, Canada, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Austria, Turkey, Philippines, Kenya, Cuba, and Holland. Even off the ship John made sure to look after his fellow shipmates by opening the doors of his home to anyone that was spending the holidays alone or needed a home cooked meal on Sunday. Betty and John loved the lord and spent their Sundays worshipping him at Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church, Cedar Road Assembly, and Ocean View Assembly of God. John retired from the Navy after twenty plus years but continued to work as a master mechanist tool and die maker. He retired from Norshipco and Collins Machine Work. Throughout his years John enjoyed gardening, baking, joking, and being with family. He leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Connie Pepple and Candy Mejia (Jerry); son, John L. Crew; grandchildren, Leigh Balance (Jesse), Amanda Barnette (Kevin), Justin Mejia, Ty Mejia and Morgan Baddeley (Andrew); and great-grandchildren, Kyle, Bailee, Brandon, Lily, MaKenzy, Cole, and Sophia.
