Doris McGinnis

Doris McGinnis, 89, passed away on November 21, 2019 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and joined her Father in Heaven after a long, but courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Born in Fort Wayne on December 23, 1929 to Orville and Myrtle (Ewing) Todd, she was baptized into the Christian faith as an infant. Remembered collectively by her 60 children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for her matchless enthusiasm in life, it is hard to picture her without a smile on her face. In the times they spent with her, they will remember many laughs-- never willing to take life or herself too seriously. She was a beautiful human known for her strength and positivity in good times as well as bad, and it was her Christian faith that sustained her through it all. She has taught her kids and grandkids much about living a life well-lived. "I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)" Doris is survived by five of her children: Becky (Bob) Nichols, Nancy (John) Westerman, John (Kathy) Bannister, Sue (Jerry) Campbell, and Mark (Lori) Bannister. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren: Sarah (Gary) Watkins, Katie Reinking (Brian Knitter), Kylee (Andrew) Town, Blake Westerman, Jonathan (Megan) Bannister, Stuart (Kattie) Bannister, Alec (Emily) Bannister, Jalene (Parker) Smith, Jenna (Justin) Kruse, Justine (Matt) Nobari, Jarrod Campbell (Alyssa Heilman), Joshua Bannister, Nicole (David) Cohen, Derrick (Brittany) Bannister, Benjamin Bannister, and Dustin Smith; and 27 great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William "Bill" Bannister, Clifford Voelker, Otto Ackermann, and Paul McGinnis; son, Matthew Bannister; brother, Chuck Todd; and sister, Louise Duwart. Funeral service will be on Sunday, November 24, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home (6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804) with visitation beginning at 11:00 am until the time of service. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
