Obituary of Dennis Ray Thompson
Dennis R. Thompson, 72, of Crane Hill, Alabama and formerly of West Terre Haute, lost his battle with leukemia on Friday, November 22, 2019. He was born on December 30, 1946, in Terre Haute to Richard and Annabelle (Akens) Thompson. He was the second oldest of five children. Dennis married his high school sweetheart, Paula Beel, in 1965 and they remained happily married until her passing in 1997. Together they raised four children. In 1999, he married Sherilyn Nutting with whom he shared his life until the Lord called him home. After his high school graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and served for two years. He was a member of IBEW Local 725 for over 40 years. When he retired he devoted his time to helping anyone he could. Dennis did not limit himself to helping only those within the United States, but also in other countries. His goal was to show the love of Jesus through his work no matter where he was. This desire is what led him and Sherilyn to live and serve the people in Nicaragua from 2014 until May 2018. Anyone who knew Dennis knew that he was strong, kind, and generous. He loved his family, had a deep faith in the Lord, enjoyed fishing, was a hard worker, and had a servant’s heart. Dennis is survived by his wife, Sherilyn Nutting Thompson; his children, Brent (Heidi) Thompson, Scott (Janelle) Thompson, Shawn Thompson, and Tonya Smith; grandchildren, Morgan (Jeremy) Anderson, Seth Thompson, Ramsay (Melissa) Thompson, Hailey Thompson, Wesley Thompson, Mason Thompson, Samuel Smith, Mikaila Smith, Gunner Smith, Allyssa Smith, and Charlee Bracken; brothers, Charles (Ruth) Thompson, Barry Thompson, Gary (Marsha) Thompson, and Marshall-Yogi (Beth) Thompson. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Seth Thompson, his grandson, officiating. Dennis will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park’s Chapel of Memories. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Dennis Thompson Memorial Fund at First Baptist Church, PO Box 126, West Terre Haute, IN 47885.
