George Erskine

George was born 9 September 1936 in Rochester, NY and was the second son to Ralph and Anna Erskine. He graduated East High School, earned his Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rochester, and his Master’s from American University in Washington DC. George moved to Virginia after graduating the University of Rochester, pursuing a career as a government consultant. In 1960, George married Susan Bailey, and in 1965 welcomed their only child, Elizabeth. The family spent 2 years in Fort Walton Beach, FL where George worked with the Air Force and cultivated a life-long love of Florida. George and family returned to Virginia in 1969, and he furthered his career with Mitre Corporation, where he worked for 24 years. In 1980, George and Susan separated, and he and Elizabeth later moved to McLean, VA. In 1983, George married Linda Duncan. They lived in Georgetown before moving to Vienna, VA. In retirement, George and Linda split their time between their homes in Virginia and Florida. George was outgoing and a consummate story-teller. He loved history, amateur and antique radios, exploring his family’s genealogy, and spending time with family and friends. George was preceded in death by his parents (Ralph and Anna Erskine) and sister-in-law (Arlene). He is survived by his wife (Linda), daughter and son-in-law (Elizabeth and David Johnson of Orlando, FL), brother and sister-in-law (Robert and Jean Erskine of Rochester, NY), two nephews (Steven of Sterling Heights, MI and Bobby of Rochester, NY), three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many friends.
