Obituary of Herbert Patrick Tighe

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

Herbert Patrick Tighe, (Patrick), passed away from this physical world on November 29, 2019. He was born in Newport News, VA on St. Patrick’s Day in 1929 and was blessed with a life well lived. He was fortunate to have grown up in idyllic Hilton Village where he developed many life-long friendships. Patrick was a loving, kind and joyful man who had many interests which he enjoyed over his many years. Most of all, he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with friends and family at his home in Williamsburg or traveling throughout the world. Patrick’s concern for others was reflected in his vocations. First as an inspector for the Health Department, and then as a program director for the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services. With his wife Carolyn, he provided anger and conflict management to military and civilian couples involved in abusive relationships. He was the son of Alma Parrish and Herbert Tighe, who predeceased him in death as did his only sibling, Patricia (Patsy) Albertson. Patrick was also blessed with and survived by three children with his first wife, Betty Powel, sons Michael (Cassandra Cossitt), and David (Jan); and daughter Donna (Wayne Beverly). He later became a wonderful father to his son, Kevin, when he married Carolyn Dudugjian Foster, who also survives him. Also surviving Patrick are six grandchildren, Mathew, Natalie, Palmer, Raymore, Connor and Anna; and one great grandchild, Torian. He enjoyed and was proud of his Irish heritage and was indeed an Irishman. He will be missed by his loving family, both biological and in-laws, who loved him as well. A special thanks to those who provided such loving care in the recent months, Louise Tighe, his caregiver Fransiska Serge, Dr. Kent Marcuson and his nurse, Alicia, and the Sentara Would Care Clinic of Williamsburg. A service will be held Saturday, December 7th beginning at 2pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, Virginia.
