Obituary of Dave "Big Daddy" Heldman, Sr.
Dave “Big Daddy” Heldman 77, of Indianapolis, went to heaven to be with Jesus on Saturday, December 14th. Dave was born to the late Henry and Julia Heldman on January 2, 1942. He leaves behind, Mary, his wife of 57 years and three children: David (Lisa), Bart (Sally), and Laura (Jerry) Jeter. Dave and Mary were blessed with nine grandchildren: Renee’, Rachael, Christopher, Cole, Carley (Jacob) Connelly, Becca (Derek) Banholzer, and Jay, Mikaela, Kendall Jeter. Also, two great granddaughters Brennan and Jolene. Dave leaves behind two brothers Mike (Joa) and Richard (Terri), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dave is preceded in death by his brothers; Hank and Fritz and sister; Becky. Dave retired from Eli Lilly in 1993 where he served as a supervisor for 29 years in the pilot plant. He also owned and operated, along with his partner and friend Jim Brooks, a baseball card shop known as “Big Daddy’s” in Beech Grove. He and Jim had the shop for 8 years. Dave also owned and operated a sports card wholesale and auction place with his friend John Stirling. Until his death, Dave was active as a dealer and consultant of the sports card business. He truly loved being a part of this very popular endeavor. He will always be remembered fondly as “Big Daddy” to those who are connected to this business. Dave will be truly missed by his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, a good dad and a proud papaw and great grandpa. He valued his family and his friends. Dave was proud to be known as a Christian and a follower of Jesus. He and Mary recently became members of Rocklane Christian Church. However, they served and were members of Indian Creek Christian Church for 35 years. Visitation will be held at Rocklane Christian Church in Greenwood on Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be held at the church on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 11:00am with calling one hour prior to the start of the service.
