IN THE CARE OF
Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home & Cemetery
In the early evening hours of December 18th, Heaven welcomed home a most loving and generous man, Floyd Gerhart. Floyd was born in Kokomo, Indiana on July 19, 1923 to the late Floyd Henry Gerhart Sr. and Helen Gerhart.
After graduating from Kokomo High School, Floyd began to work for Continental Steel as a machinist. He was then called to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II, and spent time in New Guinea and the Philippines. Upon being honorably discharged, Floyd returned to Continental Steel, and accumulated 39 years before retiring in 1980.
Floyd married the love of his life, Ellen Berdean (Rody) on August 16, 1947 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kokomo, and she survives. Floyd and Berdean regularly attended St. Patrick’s Church, and he was also a member of Eagle’s Lodge. Floyd devoted his life to being supportive of his family, and when he and Berdean would spend winters at their home in Florida, their children and grandchildren were always welcome to visit. Floyd was also a handyman, and could fix anything!
Floyd is survived by his wife of 72 years, Berdean Gerhart; children, Hank (Robin) Gerhart, Jill Arvin, Chris Gerhart, and Matthew (Sherri) Gerhart; grandchildren, Karly, Sara, Patrick, Abby, Ashley, Monty, Nicole, and Rachelle; and ten great grandchildren, with one on the way.
In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in passing by his son, Michael Kent; brothers, James Gerhart and Jack Gerhart; sisters, Madonna King and Sharon Rayls; and grandson, Cory Gerhart.
There will be a visitation for Floyd held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Saturday, December 21st from 11 am to 2 pm, followed immediately by a funeral service. Floyd will then be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery.
