Obituary of Louise Browning Purdy
Louise Browning Purdy, widow of the late Lt. Col. Harry E. Purdy, died peacefully at home in Glen Allen, Va. with her nieces by her side on Thursday, February 6, 2020. “Lou” was born in Plymouth, NC on September 16, 1934. She was preceded in death by her parents Philip Browning and Queenie Elizabeth Mizelle, her brother Marvin “Pete” Browning (Hazel), her sisters Margaret “Sis” Hobbs Halford (Alvin and Malcolm), Loreitta “Rita” Manning (Melvin), Phyllis Butler (Bernard); and her nephew Robert Hobbs. Lou attended Hopewell High School, Lipscomb University, and Northern Virginia Community College. She enjoyed a 32 year career as a flight attendant with Eastern Airlines. She retired with her husband to farm cattle in Castleton, Va. Lou was a life-long, dedicated member of the Church of Christ. She was a gifted, self-taught pianist who loved harmony and hymns. Lou is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great & great-great nieces/nephews, cousins, dear friends, and an extended, loving church family. Her life demonstrated a love for Christ and a passion for His truth. Death was not the end for Lou, only a continuation of a life eternal with her Creator. The family wishes to thank the many professional caregivers at DaVita Kidney Center, Homestead Hospice, and the loving family members, and friends who were there when needed. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the Hopewell Church of Christ, 310 N. 3rd Avenue, Hopewell, Va. 23860. A funeral service will be held at the church at 11 a.m., followed by interment in Appomattox Cemetery, 703 N. 21st St., Hopewell, Va. 23860.
