Obituary of Thomas Melvin Marshall
Thomas Marshall, 81, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday, May 5th, 2020 in Indianapolis Indiana. Tom was born on November 20, 1938 in Xenia, Ohio to Eugene and Esther (Melvin) Marshall and graduated from Xenia High School in 1956. After graduation, Tom attended Ohio University where he was not only active in Sigma Nu Fraternity but also met his wife of nearly 60 years, Claire Jones Marshall. He transferred to The Ohio State University where he received a degree in Pharmacy in 1960 and a Masters in Hospital Pharmacy in 1963. During his time at Ohio State, Tom was active in Phi Delta Chi pharmacy fraternity and married Claire on Aug, 13th, 1960. After receiving his Masters in 1963, Tom accepted a position with Eli Lilly & Company in Indianapolis to begin what would become a 41-year career at Lilly. Over those 41 years, Tom worked in Indianapolis, Greenfield IN, and Omaha NE spending time in quality control and product development. During this time, he worked on numerous products focused making life better and earned an M.B.A. from Indiana University. Tom always made the time to be involved in his children’s schools and activities, serving as PFO Treasurer at Mary Evelyn Castle Elementary School, leading several committees at Lawrence North High School and spending countless hours coaching, cheering and supporting his children’s teams and activities. After retirement, Tom enjoyed the opportunity to play golf as often as he wished and traded the time cheering and supporting his children for time cheering and supporting his grandchildren in their many sports and activities. He and Claire enjoyed traveling, frequently combining their trips with an opportunity to spend time with their grandchildren. Tom enjoyed dinners, golf and many other social activities with large group of lifelong friends in Indianapolis. Tom was a member of Castleton United Methodist Church. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Claire, brother Paul Marshall of Bonita Springs, FL, sister Rosemary Marshall of Mason, OH, sons Todd (Amy) Marshall of Bentonville, AR and Bryan (Stacy) Marshall of Atlanta, GA, daughter Kristin (Craig) Thompson of Arlington, MA and grandchildren Holyn Marshall, Hayden Marshall, Margaret Thompson, Hanna Thompson, Carolyn Thompson, Quincy Marshall and Taryn Marshall. Tom was blessed with an additional 15 years of life due to a liver transplant and asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Liver Foundation (liverfoundation.org) A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Feeney Hornak Keystone Mortuary.
