Obituary of Mary Frances New
Mary Francis (Hammond) New is truly home. Mary passed away Friday, the 15th of May at Mill Pond Health Campus in Greencastle IN. She was well cared for during the 5 months she stayed there; and for that her family is truly grateful. However it was just a temporary stop before she joined her loved ones waiting for her in her heavenly home. Mary was married to Woodson New, the love of her life, in 1944. They shared 63 years of marriage. Both would rather be on a tractor then anywhere else. At one point they farmed 2300 acres in Clinton Township. Mary was a member of the Clinton Township Homemakers Club and enjoyed being with the women she shared time with in this long lived Club. The Putnam County 4H Clubs were a big part of their raising 6 children who were always encouraged to get involved and be active. Mary was also an Election Judge for many years. Once Mary's children were grown she decided she needed a new challenge and got her LPN license. She worked as a nurse for many years at the Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle working in the Maternity Ward helping deliver and care for new born babies and their mothers. Mary also served as a Deaconess for her church, The First Baptist Church of Greencastle and also found time to help with her 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and she lived to know and love her 2 great-great grandchildren. Five generations of family all cherished and loved unconditionally! Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Woody New, her father, John Raymond Hammond, her mother Ruth B. (Blue) Hammond, a son, James Harvey New, a grandson Mathew New and a granddaughter Brandi Callahan, sisters Alpha Mae Boatright, Mildred Curtis, Marilyn Coleman, Helen Overton, Virginia Willsey, Patricia Cox, Nancy Fogle and brothers, Rex Hammond, Joesph Hammond, John R. Hammond II, and Samual David Hammond. Mary is survived by her children: Noble Woodson (Rhodonna) New of Carbon IN, James Harvey New's wife Carolyn of Midland FL, Ruth Mary New Hamilton (Billy) of West End NC, Robert Charles (Beverly) New of Greencastle IN, John Franklin (Jody) New of Hutchinson KS and Linda Jean New Williams (Joe) of Coatsville IN. Sisters Betty Warfield Neil of Berlin MD, Peggy Girton (Bob) of Terre Haute IN, Edith Catherine Cawley (Galen) of Coloma MI and brothers William C. Hammond (Joan) of Winter Heaven FL and Edward Nathaniel (Cheryl) Hammond of Danville IN. Arrangements for Mary's cremation and internment will be provided by Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle IN. Those wishing sign Mary's memory book may do so at dignitymemorial.com. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory may be sent to The First Baptist Church, 404 Judson Drive, Greencastle IN 46135 Funds to be used for youth programs. Well done, good and faithful servant!
