William "Bill" R. Omer

William R. “Bill” Omer, 93, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020. He was born on January 11, 1927, the eldest child, of Daniel and Aline Omer.
He graduated from Sturgis High School in Sturgis, Kentucky in 1944 and then joined the U.S. Navy that same year. Bill’s rank at retirement was Chief Petty Officer and he served as Chief Electronics Technician. He retired from active duty with the Navy after serving 20 years. Bill graduated from Ivy Tech in 1976 where he received an Associate’s Degree in Electronics Technology. For more than 10 years, he worked as an over the road truck driver, moving mobile homes across the United States. He then studied to achieve a real estate broker’s license and worked for 25 years as a realtor in the Evansville area before retiring. Bill was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loyce (Utley) Omer; son, Steve Harper; sister, Joan (Omer) Tucker; brother-in-law, Dan Tucker; and his brothers, Jim and Charles Omer.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Harper) White (Robert); daughter-in-law, Cyndi Harper; grandchildren, Bryan Harper (Stephanie), Kristy Harper, Heather Dunlap, and Keely White; five great-grandsons; sister-in-law, Ida Omer; niece, Dana (Tucker) Newingham; and two great-nieces.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN 47712. Friends may visit Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
