Obituary of Beverly Kelp
Beverly Ann (Robertson) Kelp, 82, of Nashville died peacefully at home with her family by her side Sunday evening, May 31, 2020. She was born May 6, 1938 in a log cabin in Brown County’s Schooner Valley to Albert Wesley Robertson and Lois (Wooden) Robertson. Bev served many years in local government. She was twice elected as Auditor of Brown County and served several years as Deputy Auditor. On two occasions she finished the remaining terms of Auditors who resigned. She was elected to the Brown County Council, served on the Board of Zoning appeals, Brown County’s accessibility committee, and was Financial Counselor at Bloomington Hospital where she was able to secure financial aid to allow families access to needed health care. Bev is survived by her husband, James (Jim) Kelp. They made their home on Greasy Creek Road for over 62 years where the door was always open and the coffee pot on. They were married on November 23, 1956. She is also survived by three daughters, Betsy Kelp Galloway, Barb Kelp, and Jane Ellis, all of Nashville; her brother, John Wesley Robertson, of Nashville; five grandchildren, Jessica Galloway (Rebecca Westa), Jacob Galloway, Emily Harden (Quintin), Kaitlin Ellis (Michael Hupp), and Jackson Kelp; two great-grandchildren, Hallie Jane Hupp and soon to be born, Baby Boy Hupp. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Debbie Lynn Kelp and her sister, Judith Marie Robertson. Bev helped develop girls’ sports teams in Brown County including basketball and fast pitch softball at the high school. She supported many other organizations which her children were a part. Bev enjoyed researching genealogy. She was a 63 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. The funeral service was held at 12:00 on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at the Nashville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mary Cartwright officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.
