Walter August Zinsmeister, Sr., 89, of Waynesboro, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at Heritage Hall in Lexington.
He was born on December 27, 1930 in New Jersey and was the son of the late August Phillip and Mabel Wernham Zinsmeister.
Walter attended schools in New Jersey and was a produce farmer. He was a member of New Covenant Community Church; he enjoyed gardening, fishing and bowling.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Katje Zinsmeister of Waynesboro; a daughter, Rae Ann Zinsmeister of Gloucester, VA; two sons, Walter August Zinsmeister, Jr. of Mathews, VA and Gary Alan Zinsmeister of Staunton; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gloria Nelson of Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Loftus.
He will be cremated and a memorial service will be held 11 am, Saturday, June 20, 2020 at New Covenant Community Church, Weyers Cave, with Pastor Jim Logan officiating.
