Obituary of Caitlyn Marie Newman

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Caitlyn Marie Newman, 29, of Williamsburg, Virginia passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2020. She was born on October 30, 1990 in Hartford, Connecticut. She is survived by her mother, Melanie Newman; her father, Jason Newman; her sister, Brittney Newman; her maternal grandmother, Maxine Burney; paternal grandmother, Christine Heath; paternal grandfather, Michael Newman; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as her sweet fur-babies, Hemingway the cat and Charly the bunny. Caitlyn will also be missed by her close friends who loved her, especially her “person” Kassie. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Edward Allen, and her beloved great-aunt, Susan Hosfelt. As a military child, Caitlyn obtained the natural talent of meeting new people easily. She was a graduate of Warhill High School, class of 2009. A flute player from fifth grade through high school, she loved her time with the marching band, where she was able to showcase her talent. In 2013, she earned her bachelor’s degree in history from Longwood University, and was a sister to many as a member of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. Caitlyn looked forward to OBX trips to the beach, road-trips, cruises, and brunches with friends and family. She was a beautiful soul, with big plans, taken from the world too soon. Those who knew Caitlyn remember her as one-of-a-kind, sweet, and fierce, with the conviction to stand up for what she believed in. She was an amazing daughter and a loyal friend. She was also an incredibly supportive sibling, so proud of her younger sister Brittney and constantly bragging about all of her accomplishments. Most of all, Caitlyn loved and adored children and animals. She spent much of her life caring for children. She spent nine years with the RF Wilkinson Family YMCA as a childcare attendant and then the school-age Site Director. She also spent a year as a nanny for Annah and Avah. Most recently, she was a playgroup aid for Child Development Resources, where she had been since January of 2016. Working with children was her world, and she loved the babies she cared for as if they were her own. When you think of Caitlyn, celebrate the memories you shared with her. Remember the laughs, remember the stories, and remember her beautiful spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Friday, June 26th at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. The celebration of her life will follow beginning at 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Heritage Humane Society, 430 Waller Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185 in Caitlyn’s honor. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
