Richard Ray Murphy

Richard Ray “Ricky” Murphy, 73 of Mechanicsville, Va , passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 5, 2020.
He was born November 18, 1946 to Paul and Anna Lee Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 34 years, Martha Raye Murphy; his parents; brother, Gene Murphy; and his sisters Judy Redden and Ella Murphy. He is survived by his devoted daughters Melanie Murphy and Misti Shreffler (Scott); brothers, Randell Murphy (Connie) and Jerry Murphy. His grandchildren who were the joy of his life are, Chase Thayer, Tyler and MacKenzy Shreffler. Additionally, he is survived by his mother-in-law Thelma Forren and
sister-in-laws, Mary Juarez (Lucio), Melinda Waid (Lenny) and Mona Goodson (Timmy); as well as many nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing with his grandkids. In his younger days, he enjoyed cruising in his GTO and throughout his years, you could always find him tinkering in his garage. He served in the Army during the Vietnam war. He was self employed for many years with RR Murphy Plumbing, always lending a hand to someone in need. He later in life attended The Bridge Church in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
He was loved by his family and many friends and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at the Woody Funeral Home - Atlee Chapel, on Thursday, July 9, at 1pm. A funeral service will be held at 2pm with interment to follow at Signal Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Vietnam Veterans of America, vva.org/donate.
