Obituary of Lawrence "Larry" Rollin Fleming
Lawrence Fleming, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Larry was 73 years old. He is proceeded in death by his parents and brother, Jim Fleming. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jean Fleming; son, Aaron Fleming (Sarah); daughter, Laura Carroll (Tim) and stepson, Justin Jordan (Emily). Larry is also survived by grandchildren Taylor Carroll, Marty Fleming and Sally Fleming. Larry was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Bill and Aileen Fleming. He earned a B.S. in Industrial Management from Purdue University in 1969. After a brief stint working for Raytheon, in Massachusetts, he returned to Indianapolis to work for his father’s electrical contracting company, WL Fleming Company. Around this time Larry became a Master Electrician and started his own business, Luminatae, specializing in high end lighting and furnishings. He was commercial and residential lighting designer for countless midwest locations. Larry always had a thirst for business and an unending stream of creative ideas for entrepreneurial endeavors. Even after “retirement” he continued to pursue investments in restaurants, real estate and start-ups. His interests and hobbies included, but were not limited to: civil war history, building computers, rare books and coins, Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity, BMW’s, cribbage, Italian food, Florida and the Fleming family tree. He had no interest in pulling weeds, cutting grass or really any yard work, of any kind. Larry was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1997 but exhibited symptoms long before then. His immediate response after the diagnosis was to learn as much as he could about the disease. Eventually he did learn how to manage his illness like an expert and was determined to live life to the fullness. In fact, most people would wish to have a zest for life like he did. He loved living. We can all probably agree that Larry was an incredibly good and loyal friend. Later in life he began regularly attending Second Presbyterian Church where he added many more friends to the long list. He will be missed terribly. A graveside service for Larry will take place on Friday, July 31, 2020 at 12:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9350 E. Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46229. The graveside service will be limited to the first 250 guests to arrive. Memorial contributions may be made by mail to the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
