Dorothy Jean Kolopanis joined her heavenly family on August 2, 2020. She was born July 1, 1927 in Columbus, Indiana, where she lived most of her life with her beloved husband of 43 years, George John Kolopanis, who preceded her in death. Dorothy is survived by her son George Kolopanis (Phyllis), her son Gary Kolopanis, and daughter Karen Madson (Mike): grandchildren Heather Gotschall, Chris Kolopanis (Nikki), Gwen Tabor (Tom), Kendall Rau (Kevin), and Sean Madson: great-grandchildren Brookelynn Gotschall and Cheyenne Tabor.
Dorothy was the school secretary at St. Peter’s Lutheran School for 15 years. Many students were privileged to know this sweet lady during their school days at St. Peter’s. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where she volunteered in many different organizations.
Dorothy and George both loved playing bridge at the Senior Center, where they also did volunteer work. They traveled extensively across the country in their RV during their retirement and Dorothy later took many trips with the Senior Center travel group.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her final resting place will be Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus, Indiana.
Due to the current pandemic situation, there will be a private, family funeral service at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street. If desired, memorials can be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Mill Race Senior Center.
