Albert Lewis Elder, 79 of Greensburg, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 after a brief bout with cancer. Albert was born on October 7, 1940 in Decatur County, the son of Bernie and Dortha (Dickson) Elder. On December 27, 1963 he married Margaret “Ella” Lehman, they had been married for 56 years.
Albert worked as a Supervisor at Crown Zellerbach/James Rivers here in Greensburg for 17 years. He met many friends and people during his time there. Albert was known for his integrity, honesty, empathy, toughness and his wonderful sense of humor. He was loved by many people, family, friends and acquaintances. Albert enjoyed watching football and baseball. He specifically liked to watch the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs and Indianapolis Colts.
Survivors include his wife Margaret, his son James “Jim” Elder, his daughter Julie (John) Smartz of Los Angeles, CA, two grandchildren, Luca and Alex Elder and one sister Shirley Grimes of Hanover, IN. Albert was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Loyd and Rolland.
Due to Covid concerns, a Facebook Live Funeral Service will begin at 2:30pm on Friday, August 14th with Rev. Jerran Jackson officiating. The service can be viewed on Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home’s Facebook page. Memorial contributions may be made to the Decatur County Animal Shelter.
