Obituary of Gary W. Hahn
Gary W. Hahn was born August 10, 1938 in Evansville, IN to the late Ed and Elsie (Rueger). He passed away peacefully at his home. Gary graduated from Reitz High School in 1956, and served in the National Guard. In 1959, he co-founded Hahn Brothers Drywall with his brother Butch Hahn. Gary played in the major softball league where he was the league leading hitter and pitcher, even playing a game against the King and His Court. He was a member of the Hadi Shrine, serving in the car club. He also belonged to Lessing Masonic Lodge #464. Those who know Gary remember him having a love for golf, and betting the ponies. Gary owned many race horses through the years, some of which were successful and many of which were not. His avid love for golf led him to become an excellent golfer, shooting a remarkable four hole-in-ones. He was a lifelong member of Oak Meadow Country Club where he played golf with his buddies several times a week. Gary was sometimes referred to as the “Mayor of Earle.” He was very proud of the “Lucky H Ranch,” and in the summers, he could always be found on the tractor, and caring for his cattle and horses. He was a long-time member of St. Paul’s UCC. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mel Hahn, Gene Hahn, and Butch Hahn. Gary is survived by his children, Holly Hammer (Donald) and Bart Hahn (Michelle), and their sister, Amy Egli (Billy); sister, Jackie Gard; grandchildren, Courtney, Aaron, Sam, and Emily; and great grandchildren, Kinsley and Alayna.
