Mary E. McGowan, 95, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020, at the Evansville Protestant Home. She was born on December 30, 1924, in Boonville, IN, to the late John Waldo and Pearl (Hicks) Nicholson.
Mary had worked as a buyer for Salm’s Department Store, Panache’ Hair and in the office of Drs. Raibley and Ligon. She met her husband while working at Servel during the war. Mary enjoyed crocheting and needlework, reading, cooking and baking. She always made her “mix” for everyone at Christmas. Mary attended Olivet Church, where she served as a Deacon. She had volunteered for her church, teaching Sunday school and bible school.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert McGowan; brothers, John, Robert, Kenneth, Jerry and James Nicholson.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Julia Leavitt and Jan Wojcicki (Dr. Walter); grandchildren, Megan Leavitt and Mary Alice Wojcicki; sisters, Betty Bell, Doris Bremkamp and Judy Reed; brother, Charles Nicholson; nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2020, at Sunset Memorial Park, with burial to follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
