IN THE CARE OF
Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home & Cemetery
Jerry Edward Mascari, 66, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, at Ascension St. Vincent, Kokomo, Indiana, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born and spent his early years in Beach Grove, Indiana. His family later moved to Moline, Illinois, where he graduated from high school at United Township High School in 1973. Moline is where many of his family still reside and call home. During high school, he earned his pilot's license and continued to fly through the 1970s.
After graduation, he spent 10 years as a carpenter working for John Deere while he started a family. He then moved to Florida and later relocated to Richmond, Indiana, where he worked for Saginaw.
He studied electrical engineering at Back Hawk College in Moline, Illinois, and then started his career at Chrysler as an electrician in 1997. He retired after 19 years and had spent the last three years enjoying retirement.
His passions included fishing, golfing and flying model airplanes. He also had a passion for eating and trying new foods. Some say he "lived to eat." Mexican was his favorite type of food.
He recently took up camping as a hobby after retirement and spent last summer on Little Barbee Lake. He enjoyed fishing and relaxing during this time.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Mascari, and two sisters, Cathy Ruetten and Loraine Nedza.
He leaves his wife of 14 years, Susan Mascari; his mom, Lucann Mascari; his two children, Anthony Mascari and Nikki Segura; five siblings, Virginia Peterson, Yvonne Prickett, Joseph Mascari, Albert Mascari and Rocci Mascari; four grandchildren, Echo Mascari, Leo Mascari, Cameron Hewitt and Cason Hewitt; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Lastly, he was a doting grandfather and loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren. He spent some time camping with them this summer and was also able to take them fishing in early fall.
An open house with a memorial service to celebrate his life will be at South Creek Church of God in Kokomo, Indiana, from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6. The memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. 5937 S. Park Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. Visitors should wear a mask.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Gerald Mascari.
