William "Bill" O'Kelly Russell

William “Bill” O’Kelly Russell, 86, of Waynesboro, VA, passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. He was born on July 29, 1934 in Potsdam, NY, a son of the late William B. Russell and Helen (O’Kelly) Russell. He graduated from Massena High School in 1952 and served his country in Germany with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He graduated from Clarkson University 1960 with a degree in Business and later earned a Masters of Education from St. Lawrence University. Bill married Martha C. Stetz on June 3, 1961, and they enjoyed 35 years of marriage until her death in 1996. Through the years, Bill held a number of jobs in both manufacturing and education fields and lived primarily in Canandaigua, NY. He pursued a variety of interests in gardening, wood working, traveling, skiing and canoeing. After retirement, he moved to Waynesboro to be closer to family and was happiest when working in his yard, enjoying “wine and biscuits” with his dog, or chatting with his grandchildren and neighbors. Bill is survived by his children Catherine (Jeffrey) Loomis of Waynesboro and William O’Kelly (Angela) Russell, Jr of Dumfries, his brothers John (Eleanor) Russell of Gorham, NH and Kimball (Marcia) Russell of Greenville, SC, his seven grandchildren Ryan Loomis, Peter Loomis, Sarah Loomis, Benjamin Russell, Katyana Russell, Ethan Russell, and Liam Russell, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved Airedales J.R. and Jodie, and is survived by his loyal dog, Lucky. A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Canandaigua, NY.
