Steven J. Smith

Steven J. Smith, 67 of Huntington passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at Lutheran Hospital. Mr. Smith was a 1971 graduate of Huntington North High School where he was the president of the FFA his senior year. He then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Huntington College in 1976. He worked at the A&P Store during high school and college. He worked at Bendix from 1984 until he retired in 1996. He then went on to work for and volunteer at the Huntington YMCA, and he also volunteered at Camp Dick Runyan. He was an avid sports fan. He especially loved the Cincinnati Reds. He and his wife coached the Huntington Special Olympics swim team from 1988 – 2000. His love for life and his sense of humor were contagious. Mr. Smith was a Deacon at the Wabash Primitive Baptist Church where he was a member for 48 years. His love for God, his family, and the church were an inspiration to those who knew him. He was born on March 10, 1953 in Huntington, the son of the late John and Margaret (Brickley) Smith. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Diane Barton on April 13, 1974 at College Park Church. Survivors include his wife: Diane Smith; two sons: Richard Smith, Steven (Lisa) Smith; a daughter: Danielle (Efrain) Angulo; four grandchildren: Elizabeth Angulo, Efrain Angulo, Olivia Angulo, Reagan Angulo and a sister: Sandra Boxell, all of Huntington. He was preceded in death by a sister: Sharon Boundy. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 4, 2020 from 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Wabash Primitive Baptist Church, 340 S. 200 E., Huntington, Indiana. We will be following the CDC’s and Indiana’s guidelines for Social Distancing and Social Gathering Limits. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Wabash Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Phil Nigh officiating. Interment will be at the Star of Hope Cemetery in Huntington County. Memorial donations can be made out to Wabash Primitive Baptist Church in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
