Obituary of James A. Schneider
James A. Schneider, 93, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at his home. He was born in Evansville, Indiana on June 15, 1927 to the late Adam and Mary Louise (Hahn) Schneider. Jim was a lifelong musician starting at age six where he played with the Henry Reis Band. A few years later he joined the Sons of the American Legion Band and journeyed with them on tours through the East of Boston up into Canada. He continued playing with several local bands, and in the 50’s played with Ray Anthony doing summer replacement for the Perry Como Show, a movie with Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron (Daddy Long Legs), as well as touring all over the states and Canada and doing a lot of college dances, etc. When he returned to Evansville, he taught Instrumental Music with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. Jim is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia; son, Jay Scott Schneider (Teresa); granddaughter, Katie Suzanne (Clint Omohundro); two great grandchildren, Silas and Miriam Omohundro; goddaughter, Kelly B. O’Hanrahan who came to us at age 9; brother, Donald Schneider (Mary) and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Salem Church of Darmstadt, officiated by Rev. David Peterson, with burial in St. Paul’s UCC Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Inside seating will be limited. Those wishing to listen to the service may tune in to 87.9 FM in their cars in the church parking lot.
