Obituary of Sonia Maude Goldson
Sonia Maude Goldson was born on May 10, 1948 in Panamá, República de Panamá. She was the daughter of the late John Goldson and Reka Hobbs. Sonia migrated to the United States from Panamá, República de Panamá in 1957 and became a citizen of the United States in 1964. She graduated from high school in 1967. Sonia continued her education and received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from City College of New York in 1972. In 1977 Sonia began her employment with North Central Bronx Hospital as a Ward Clerk on the Labor and Delivery Unit where she diligently worked until her retirement in 2012 after 35 years of faithful service. Upon her retirement she headed south to live out the rest of her days in Hampton, Virginia. Sonia enjoyed traveling, shopping, music, reading, book clubs and watching television, particularly court TV and sports. Though she did not have children, she was instrumental in the rearing of family members and fit well as a member of "our village." Sonia’s love and kindness will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. The assistance she gave to family members particularly during the holidays and special occasions will be deeply missed and those precious moments will always be cherished in our hearts. When she arrives at the Golden Gates, we know she will be looking for her mom and dad, Tia Gladys, Aunt Lu, Uncle James, Deborah, Sonja, Marlon or anyone who will give her a “fitty”. She traded her tired soul for wings like an eagle and transitioned from this world on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at her home in Hampton, Virginia. Left to mourn is the family patriarch, Uncle Richard Goldson (Linett) of Rialto, California. Her sisters Amelia Powell de Eduardo (Guy), Xenia Goldson, Luna Ramirez, Andrea Goldson, brothers Fernando A. Goldson (Lucinda), Erasmo Goldson (Elaine), Omar Englem, niece Sonalis Eduardo de Holder (Stanley), cousins Yvette Jones (Tyrone), Onnajay Goldson (Sherri) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves to cherish her fur baby and the love of her life, Dakota Samantha. Sonia, you are on our minds and we wish you a peaceful journey!!!! The service will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. She will be laid to rest at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton, Virginia. The family will be hosting a meeting room on ZOOM beginning at 10 am; meeting number is 96585368449 for Sonia's Homegoing. In keeping Sonia’s wishes for her loving pet, the family has requested in lieu of flowers please donate to the Dakota Care Fund. We suggest gift cards from PetSmart in care of Onnajay Goldson at 132 Baker Farm Drive, Hampton, VA 23666. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” II Timothy 4:7
