Obituary of Wilma Ruth Dunn
Wilma R. Dunn of Virginia Beach passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021, joining her husband, Gerald Allen Dunn, with their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born and raised in Missouri to Braden David Lockard and Marie Newton Lockard on October 11, 1931. She married her sweetheart, best friend and sailor, Gerry in 1952 and accompanied him to many duty stations during his twenty year military career. They enjoyed settling down in Virginia Beach with many military friends and family. She will be remembered as a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. After raising her children, her pastimes included shopping, taking care of her three poodles over the years and she was an avid bridge player. One would wonder if she was better finding a sale, then calculating the deal or achieving the many “Grand Slams” during a bridge game. Through travel and many tournaments, she attained the American Contract Bridge League’s highly acclaimed Life Master Status. Wilma will be sorely missed by her loving family – son David Allen Dunn (Brenda), daughters Barbara Jean Dunn, Deborah Dunn Sawyer (Lee) and Tanya Lynn Riley, seven grandsons and three granddaughters of whom she was very proud: Aimee Bauernfeind, Daniel Dunn, Brian Dunn, Jason Dunn, Braden Sawyer, Blake Sawyer, Brett Sawyer, TJ Riley Jr., Torri Riley and Tatem Riley. She is also survived by her two great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters, and was looking forward to welcoming a new great-granddaughter in June. Nothing thrilled Wilma more than to have them over for Grandma’s camp: to swim, play froggy, search for bear - bear, play UNO or cards, go bowling or participate in the legendary before school shopping. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 18th, at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, 4392 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. The visitation will be held prior to the service at 12:00 noon in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
