Obituary of Michael Puryear
Micheal Puryear was born to Lillian Minor Puyear and Marvin Puryear on Friday, August 14, 1953. Michael had two older brothers, Leroy (who has preceded him) and Marvin “Auggie” Puryear. Michael met and fell in love with the love of his life, who he called his “Queen”, Delores Davis in 1979. Together in 1988 they relocated to Virginia where they built what he would say “a beautiful life”. He flourished his career as a Sous Chef to include 25 years at the Hampton Yacht Club. Always ready to feed any and everybody who spent more than five minutes with him. With all the time and years he had spent in the Bahamas with family he became an honorary Bahamian. An Icon, a presence, A king, real, raw, magnetic, Fred Astaire on the dance floor, and Loved a good joke are some of the statements that continue to be said about him through time. He was Pops and Uncle Mike to many. On Tuesday, March 30, 2021, Michael Puryear was called home. He leaves behind to continue his legacy with his children, Rita, Tamika (Jose), Michael, Jor-EL, and of course Charles. As a supportive, loving and dedicated Grandfather of thirteen, Tori-EL, Tanyelle, Alissa, Avery, Michael, Christian, Tajari, Tania, Candace, Jor-EL, Kaleb, Tamia, and of course Taja; five Godchildren: Daniel, Suelene, Monique, Travis, and Tanita. A host of nieces, nephews, along with family and friends. Michael would want to be remembered with a good dance song, a frosty cold beer, a good shot of Tequila, and a great joke. But he will truly be remembered for his unconditional love for his family especially his grandchildren. They were truly his pride and joy. He wore the name Grandpa like a badge of honor. He loved each and every one as if they were the only one.
