Dorothy Schlatter

Dorothy (Pifer) Schlatter, 99, of Fort Wayne, went to her Eternal Home on June 18, 2020. Born in Fort Wayne, she was a daughter of the late Vern and Ethel (Preston) Pifer; and was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne. She was a graduate of South Side High School, and worked for 10 years at Kroger. She married Bill Schlatter, on October 17, 1948, who also preceded her in death in 2002, after more than 54 years of marriage. Dorothy was a dedicated wife and homemaker, and a loving mother and grandmother. She had a steadfast faith and a servant's heart, volunteering behind the scenes at church, and quietly performing various acts of kindness for her friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter, Karlene (David) Kompara, of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Nick (Nichole) Kompara, Matt (Bri) Kompara, and Laura (Jeff) Zenger; and great-grandchildren, Tatum, Charlie, and Walker. She was also preceded in death by her son, Darrell Schlatter; and sisters, Gwendlyn Pifer, and Thelma Pifer.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 4700 Vance Ave, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Burial will be in Harlan Memorial Cemetery, Harlan. Memorial donations may be given to the Shriner's Children's Hospital or Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne.
