Obituary of Alice Kersting
Alice Rose Kersting, age 100, of Albion passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at home under the loving care of her family and Oaklawn Hospice. She was born December 4, 1918 in Veedersburg, IN. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Goldie Whitaker. Alice graduated from Hartford High School in 1936, and in 1940 graduated from Borgess Hospital School of Nursing as an R.N. She worked in Grand Rapids, MI for many years in a dental and oral surgery office. In her retirement, she remained busy volunteering in the Albion Public School elementary libraries, spending time with her family, and traveling with friends. She especially loved a good bus trip and a game of bingo. Alice, also known as Grandma, Grandma Alice or GG, was a skilled cook, baker, and gardener. She could make or fix just about anything. She will be fondly remembered as a strong, practical woman who was often (always) right. If you had the pleasure of knowing her, you'll know this is true. Alice is survived by her daughter, Michiele Ogilbee (Ron), five granddaughters, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many beloved friends. A memorial game of bingo will be held in her honor at a later date, followed by an episode of Wheel of Fortune, beginning precisely at 7:00. Southern Comfort will be served. Memorial donations in her name may be made to Marshall Public Schools - Harrington Library, 100 S. Clark Street, Albion, MI 49224.
