Obituary of Matthew "Mick" Edward Wasick
Matthew Edward “Mick” Wasick, age 89 of Albion passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019 at his home under the loving care of his family and Oaklawn Hospice. He was born May 14, 1930 in Albion the son of John and Mary (Banoczek) Wasick. He married Joyce Carr on January 13, 1956 in Angola, Indiana and she survives. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughters Elizabeth Wasick and Terry Pace, grandson, Zachary Pace, siblings: Mary Garn, Sally Schultz, Subina Fendler, John Wasick, Lucille Rustenholtz and Marjorie Murray. Mick served our country proudly and honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a hard worker, working for McGraw Edison for 27 years and also for the City of Albion for 12 years. Mick was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and the VFW. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather who really enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, gardening, lawn care, working outside or just sitting on his back porch, enjoying nature. He loved the Detroit Tigers even if they weren’t doing well and loved attending the games, even attending a game with his entire family for his 80th birthday. He enjoyed bowling as well and even played fast pitch softball, earning the nickname Tide due to his uncanny ability to “Clean up”. In addition to his loving wife Joyce of 63 years, Mick also leaves to cherish his memory children: Mark Wasick of Albion, Molly (Bryan) Pollman of Albion, Tim (Kristie) Wasick of Albion, Sarah (Mike) Boyle of New Baltimore, MI and son-in-law, Jim Pace of Albion; 10 grandchildren: Josh Pace, Kelsey Huff, Matthew Wasick, Jamie Wasick, Natalie Bowen, Jessica Selden, Alex Wasick, Annie Wasick, Brendan Boyle, Molly Boyle, 6 great grandchildren and sister, Stella (Robert) Osterberg. Mick’s family will receive visitors on Wednesday, August 28th from 5-8 PM with a Rosary service at 7 PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 29, 2019 beginning at 11AM at St. John Catholic Church 1020 Irwin Ave., Albion with Father Joe Gray officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Riverside Cemetery, Albion. Memorial contributions may be made to Oaklawn Hospice or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
