Bernice Belbeck Bernice Margaret Belbeck (nee Saunders) was born August 19, 1931 in Aberdeen, SK, to Clayt and Kay (Lewis) Saunders. Bernice moved to Lady Smith in 1937 but she was always a prairie girl and when she was old enough she moved back to Saskatchewan and completed a course to be a Nurses Aid at the Saskatoon Institute for Technology. There she met Dan and they married November 2, 1951. They moved to the family farm on the shores of Fife Lake where they farmed, raised four children and lived until moving to Rockglen, SK in 1980. Bernice loved to garden and always had a large vegetable garden, she enjoyed her flower garden especially roses. She loved bird watching. She enjoyed reading and was instrumental in Rockglen getting a Branch of the Palliser Regional Library. Bernice believed in community and was on the Rockglen Hospital Auxillary Board and a founding member of the Rockglen Historical Society. Dan and Bernice enjoyed square dancing and danced to Bill Schmidt’s calling for many years. Bernice loved to play cards and was part of the Rockglen Bridge Club for over 40 years. Bernice died December 12, 2018 at Grasslands Health Centre, Rockglen. Predeceased by her son Cameron, her parents Clayt and Kay, her sister Audrey and brother Allan, sisters-in-law Julia Riley, Ivy Hill, Muriel Heagy and Enid Belbeck, brothers-in-law Orville McDonald, Bruce McDonald, Jimmy Jack, John, Hal and Bill Belbeck, Ernest Riley, Virgil Riley, Barry Hill and Raymond Heagy, Bernice is survived by her husband of 67 years, Daniel Belbeck, daughters Sandra (Roger) Lamontagne, Diane (Brent) Denham, son Russell (Jeanette), five grandsons, four granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren, her sisters Isabelle McDonald, Marion (Sandy) Saunders and Dale Jack, her brother Bob (Kathleen) Saunders, and her sister-in-law Fay Belbeck. A Celebration of Bernice’s life was held at the April 20, 2019 at the Rockglen Community Hall. The service was facilitated by son, Russell. A Tribute was given by Bernice’s family and a Special Tribute from Carla Yost. Urn Bearer was Leigh Lamontagne. Interment will take place at Rockglen Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to the Rockglen Heritage Orchard. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
