Marie Soparlo passed away peacefully at Assiniboia Hospital Long Term on October 23rd, 2018 at the age of 93 years. Marie was born October 4th, 1925 in Wood Mountain, SK where she grew up and attended school. She was the eldest of six children to Vasile (Bill) and Lena Tonita. In 1947 Marie married Lee Soparlo and for the next fifty-six years they made their home in Wood Mountain and later, in Assiniboia upon her retirement from the local Post Office. Marie was a wonderful hostess taking her turn with all the traditional holidays. She touched the hearts of many people including her care-givers at Assiniboia Long Term Care. Marie was predeceased by her husband Lee Soparlo, her parents Vasile (Bill) and Lena Tonita, her brothers Dan and George Tonita and her sisters Dora Hordenchuk and Iona Caragata. Marie is survived by her sons Cameron Soparlo and Verner Soparlo, her grandchildren Aaron-Lee (Lyle), Jayce (Shannon) and Madison and her great-grandchildren Shay, Justiss, Tanner, Hayden and Hunter. Marie also leaves behind her brother Steve (Peggy) Tonita, sister-in-law Diann Tonita as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Orthodox Funeral Service was held Monday, October 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia, Sask. with Father Cosmin Vint Officiating Priest. Tribute delivered by son, Verner. Honourary Mention to Shirley Punga and Loretta Feser. Pallbearers Verner, Cameron, Aaron-Lee, Jayce, Madison and Shay. Interment took place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, SK. Donations in Memory of Marie can be made to the Assiniboia Auxiliary for Long Term Care or the Saskatchewan Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
