Jack Drummond

Jack Drummond was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He earned an undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University and a Master’s Degree from Florida State University with honors courtesy of the US Air Force. Jack's early Air Force career was marked by exceptional service through six tours in Southeast Asia. His decorations include three Silver Stars for gallantry in action, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 18 Air Medals, and over a dozen other awards from the US, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam governments. Lt. Col. Drummond was also inducted into the Air Commando Hall of Fame in 2017. He flew over 600 combat missions, including 125 night combat missions, evading gunfire and delivering munitions at altitudes as low as 50 feet. Lt. Col. Drummond trained the Royal Lao Air Force T-28 pilots whose mission it was to prevent a communist overrun of Laos. He worked directly with presidents, vice presidents, and secretaries of state and defense. After retirement from the Air Force, Jack served as executive director of the Austin Apartment Association and later the Association of Facility and Maintenance Engineers. He also led the Building Owners and Managers Association of Austin into one of the top BOMA organizations in the US. Jack is survived by children from his second marriage, Greg Head and wife Shannon, and Becky Head-Doss; and daughter from his first marriage, Dedra Lance and husband Kenny; grandchildren Bailey and Cameron Head, Olivia Jinks and husband Coty, Emma and Clayton Doss, Carlene Savard, Alison Lance; great grandchildren Ryder and Brooklyn Jinks, Mikeyla Willis; and brother Clif Drummond and sisters-in-law Fayma and Gale Drummond; and multiple nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Mary Pat's brothers and sisters whom he considered his own. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 33 years Mary Pat Drummond, his mothers Lois Hudson and Llera Drummond, father G.W. Drummond, and brothers Don and Dave Drummond. The family would like to give a special thanks to the BOMA family and AAFAME Family. He loved you all dearly! Services will be in the chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N Lamar, in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, August 23rd, at 1:00 p.m. A reception following services will be held at the Crowne Plaza, 6121 N I-35 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
