Obituary of Carolyn Smith
Carolyn N. Smith, 92, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at her home in Riverchase, Hoover, Alabama. She was born October 7, 1926 in Brantley, Alabama. Carolyn graduated from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama. At the age of 16, she entered Birmingham Southern College where she received her undergraduate degree; she received her Master's Degree at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Throughout her education, she was given various honors and awards. Carolyn retired as the librarian of Hewitt Trussville High School. She was an accomplished artist and was one of the founding members of PACE (Patrons Art Council East). She was an active tennis player, world traveler, and an elaborate cook. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Lee Noel and Lois Kersh Noel; a sister, Thelma Noel Schifflin. She is survived by three children: Michael S. Smith (Joy), Julie Noel Joyner (Steve), and David M. Smith; six grandchildren, Janey Smith Clark (Chris), Stacey Lynn Irvin (James), Michael G. Smith (Christina), Sean David Smith (Mandi), Kevin Francis Joyner, and Christopher Noel Joyner (Sarah); seven great grandchildren, Jacob Reese Smith, Kimberly Joy Smith, Peyton Alexander Smith, Levi Irvin, Claire Marie Joyner, Caroline Rose Joyner, and Sadie Christine Joyner. Carolyn's memorial will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 2 PM at St. Mary's On the Highlands Episcopal Church, Birmingham, Alabama. After the service, there will be a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary's Choir Fund. Carolyn will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
