Obituary of Ms. Jean Margaret Banfield
Born in Saskatoon on June 24th, 1927, youngest of four children: Gerry (Joe), Merrill (Helen), Neil (Mary), Marlene, all predeceased. Blessed by three children, Grant (Vivian), Howie, and Barbara (Michael). Grandchildren wonderfully received, Kristen, Duane, Joe, Julie, Adam and Rachel, and three great grandchildren MacKenzie, Cohen and Lindsay. Jean belonged to many groups through the years: WMS (Women's Missionary Society), IODE (Independent Order of Daughters of the Empire), and CBPW (Christian Business and Professional Women). Member of Burnaby Ladies Golf Club and member of Cliff Avenue United Church. Jean started her own modelling schools in the 70's, called Jean Banfield Charm and Modelling Schools. She joined the Financial Post after selling her schools, and retired as Western Advertising Sales Manager. During the earlier years Jean coached junior golf and junior bowling with champions in both sports. Jean was golf champion four times at Ridgetown Golf and Country Club and played in the Ontario Open. At Jean's retirement banquet she was toasted and her history was given as follows: On July 1, 1992 Ms. Jean Banfield, Western Sales Manager for the Financial Post, retires after a 19 year career as a sales professional with the Financial Post and Maclean Hunter. Ms. Banfield began her career with Maclean Hunter in 1973 as one of the company's first female sales representative and moved on to manage such prestigious territories as Real Estate and Special Reports. In 1983 Ms. Banfield was transferred to Vancouver as Western Sales Manager for the Financial Post. Ms. Banfield was honored by her colleagues at a special presentation held on Saturday, June 13, 1992. Her picture and this message was published in the Financial Post issue, June 13, 1992. A memorial service will be held at Cliff Avenue United Church, 1600 Cliff Avenue, Burnaby, BC on October 18, 2019 at 11:00am, with tea to follow.
